Imphal, October 08 2025:
The remote villages of Khengjang and Phaisangjang in Chandel district witnessed a heartening transformation as a collaborative initiative brought sustainable lighting to homes long accustomed to darkness.
The project was jointly implemented by Assam Rifles, in partnership with Sunbird Foundation and HDFC Bank Parivartan Yojana, as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach.
As per a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), the programme unfolded with warmth and enthusiasm as more than 150 villagers and students gathered to celebrate the installation and distribution of 84 solar lamps.
The event was attended by 28 personnel from Assam Rifles, along with dignitaries including the village chiefs and secretaries of Khengjang and Phaisangjang, Richard from Sunbird Trust, and Dominic, Principal of Khengjang School.
Their presence underscored a shared commitment to sustainable development and community upliftment in border areas.
The initiative, aligned with Operation Sadbhavana, aimed to empower deprived populations through meaningful welfare interventions.
By introducing clean and renewable energy solutions, the project enhances safety, supports education and fosters greater community interaction after sunset.
For families who have long navigated the challenges of limited electricity access, the arrival of solar lighting marked a significant step toward improved quality of life and self-reliance.
The distribution of solar ball lamps not only illuminated homes but also rekindled a sense of optimism among residents.
Children now have better conditions to study, elders can move safely after dark and community spaces can remain active beyond daylight hours.
Through such collaborative efforts, Assam Rifles, Sunbird Foundation and HDFC Bank Parivartan Yojana continue to transform everyday challenges into opportunities for growth, resilience and hope in the border regions of Northeast India.
