Imphal, February 08 2010: Employees of the State Information and Public Relation Department today staged a sit-in protest to register joining to the ceased work from today launched by employees of the state government demanding in toto implementation of the revised sixth pay bands of the central government in the state.

To register employees joining the cease work launched under the initiative of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organisation (AMGEO, employees of the DIPR also staged a sit-in protest today at its office premise at MSRTC, Imphal.

Office rooms of the office were locked down by the employees.

"The agitation of the JAC is reasonable and the demands are rightful one.

We will extend support and during the strike period we will not dispatch any kinds of statement or order issued by the departments of the state government," said an employee taking part in the protest.

The joining of DIPR in the cease work strike will greatly affected in highlighting government activities to the people through media, employees taking part in the sit-in protest during the office hour claimed.

On the other hand, pensioners of the state government also staged a sit-in protest today at Yaiskul as part of their series of protest by changing places on the demand for clearance of arrear they are to get from the government.

Meanwhile, working in offices and departments of the state government continue to paralyze for 24th day today.

The cease-work strike commenced from January 16 under the banner of JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO.

Employees by rejecting government order to pay the sixth revised pay bands as per recommendation of the sixth Pay Commission effective from coming April without arrear, decided to go ahead with the cease work strike till their demands are fulfilled by the government.

They are demanding payments of arrears effective from January 1, 2006 stating that an amount of Rs 234.53 crore for increment of pays for pensioners and employees had already sanctioned under advanced SPA by the Centre to the state government.

It stated that a total amount of Rs 2000 crore, including Rs 234.53 crore for pay increment, was sanctioned as per an agreement between the state government and Deputy Planning Commission on 19-8-09 for advance payment from November 2009 till March 2010, the JAC claimed.
