Imphal, Aug 06:
To enable the people of the State exercise their due rights, the people need to raise collective voice against such denial of rights, observed UCM secretary O Hemanta.
During a function today at Evergreen Standard English School, Kwakta, he noted that people ought to raise a united voice against the attitude of the State Govt which failed to fulfil the demands and legitimate rights of the people unless resorted to agitation or strong complaints.
He noted that even as the Primary Health sub-Centre of Kwakta fails to serve any purpose, the people of Kwakta don't strive much to ameliorate their hardships.
Prior to that function, UCM organised an inspection tour of the Kwakta PHSC with the Director of Health Directorate Th Suresh and Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur Th Ibocha.
During the inspection tour, many irregularities such as non-attendance by staff, improper functioning, attendance by substitute nurses and opening of the PHSC only for three days a week etc were observed.
Moreover there was no facility of tiolet in the PHSC having just one bed.
According to the villagers of Kwakta, in case of an emergency people have to go either to Moirang PHC or Churachandpur which causes severe hardships and inconvenience to villagers.
Further, the PHSC is almost useless to the pregnant women for their medical requirements.
Health Director Th Suresh, after hearing the tale of woes, assured the villagers that the required number of staff would be provided to the PHSC and the commensurate actions would be initiated against derelict staff.
If it is necessary, he would look into possibility of upgrading the PHSC to the status of a PHC, said the Director.
