Imphal, June 04 2010: In the face of NSCN-IM General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah's renewed attempt to enter Manipur from Kohima-Jessami road, the State Government has taken up stringent security measures and opened two security camps at Jessami and Liyai Khunou village to thwart the rebel leader's attempt.

Briefing media persons today in his conference hall, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi who is also in charge of the Home Department, stated that the State Government has been on alert mode to prevent entry of Muivah under any circumstances.

The Government of Manipur has been gathering information about the movement of Muivah from different intelligence sources on daily basis, Ibobi informed the media.

Responding to a flurry of questions raised by media persons, the Chief Minister quoting intelligence reports said that Muivah was planning to leave Viswema camp and move to Pfutsero where he would open a camp and seek opportunity to enter Manipur.

Acting on these reports, the State Government has sent adequate number of State security forces to Jessami and Liyai Khunou last night where they have set up camps.

State security personnel numbering around 200 headed by the Imphal East Superintendent of Police have been stationed at Liyai Khunou.

Strong security barricades have also been put up at Jessami where a strong column of security forces led by a senior police officer has been deployed.

These are in addition to the BSF troops already posted at these two strategic points, Ibobi stated.

He categorically stated that nobody can raise objections when State security forces including commandos are deployed in any part of the State for reasons related to law and order.

On the Ukhrul incident, Ibobi said that curfew was imposed in Ukhrul town as there was strong apprehension of subversive activities in connection with the ADC elections.

But skirmishes broke out between security personnel and local womenfolk when the security personnel tried to enforce the curfew a little hastily, Ibobi iterated.

Explaining about pull out of IRB from Ukhrul, the Chief Minister stated that the move was neither surrender nor withdrawal.

It was a tactical move carried out to save the situation.

Moreover, the IRB personnel pulled out from Ukhrul were ordered to join the other State security forces who were sent to Jessami and Liyai Khunou.

The State Government has initiated due procedure to book under the National Security Act, the two NSCN-IM cadres arrested yesterday.

The two NSCN-IM cadres were arrested along with a hijacked car from Imphal-Dimapur road.

However, the two ANSAM volunteers who were pulled up in connection with the ongoing blockade on NH 53 have been released on their assurance that they would stay away from the blockade.

Of the four other ANSAM activists pulled up from NH 39 yesterday, two have been handed over to Imphal police station while the other two have been handed over to Kangpokpi police station.

The four activists belong to Tadubi and Tamei areas.

Befitting actions will be initiated against them to make everyone understand that there is rule of law in Manipur, the Chief Minister added.
