To make way for development of the Sendra Tourist Home, security personnel occupying the home has been removed.
Moreover funds allocated to 18 tourism projects which have failed to take off till date have been adjusted to 12 new projects now under progress.
The renovation programme of Sendra Tourist Home was taken up under the fund sponsored by the Union Ministry of Tourism.
A high-ranking State official informed that the State Tourism Department has initiated 12 tourism projects including the renovation of Sendra Tourist Home.
To make way for the renovation of the tourist home, security forces have vacated the site some two months back.
The renovation work is slated for completion during 2006-07.The other projects being taken up and would be taken by the State Tourism Department include Keirao Base camp at the cost of Rs 4.83 lakhs, health resort at Hotel Imphal at the cost of rs 5.12 lakhs, dormitory of Koubru Leikha base camp at Rs 24.50 lakhs, base camp of Koubru hills at Rs 15, recreation facilities, gallery and platform of Thangjing temple at Rs 40 lakhs, Mughal garden at Bishnupur district at Rs 100 lakhs, tourist home at Veitum, Senapati at Rs 64.77 lakhs, Serou tourist home at Rs 4.30 lakhs, development of State museum at Rs 5 lakhs, tourist complex at Rs 31.50 lakhs and Lamdan base camp of Churachandpur at Rs 3.84 lakhs.
Funds for the proposed projects and the projects currently under progress were sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Tourism during 2005-06.In addition, funds meant for the 18 projects which have been cancelled following the inability to start field works, have been reallocated to the 12 new projects.
Altogether Rs 274.10 lakhs were sanctioned for the 18 dropped projects.
