Local residents of Nongpok Sekmai apprehended a youth allegedly involved in plucking out/snatching a gold amulet from the necklace of a child.
The apprehended youth who was thrashed by the infuriated locals has been identified as Leikham Ibochoubi (22) s/o Bheigya of Yairipok Keisham Leikai.
Ibochoubi was apprehended last afternoon from his sister's Nongpok Sekmai residence yesterday and currently detained under the custody of two women organisations of the locality.
Identity of the boy child from whom the amulet was snatch has been identified as Ahongshangbam Ibungo alias Nganthoi (5) s/o Chandramani of Nongpok Sekmai Mayai Leikai and nursery class student .
According to functionaries of the women bodies, the crime was committed on March 12 when Ibungo along with his two other friends were walking in the area.
Identity of the amulet snatcher came to light when Ibungo's mother Asha approached a local goldsmith for another gold-amulet as the child is informed to have voiced protest against attending classes until and until he wore an amulet.
As the said goldsmith produced an amulet resembling the one snatched from her child's necklace, the mother informed to matter to family members whose inquiry came to light that the same was delivered for exchange in money by Ibochoubi.
