Imphal, January 31:
Observing that the existing name of the State �Manipur� is an imported one, the Meetei National Front has resolved to urge the next State Government to change the name to something more related to the land and acceptable to the people.
The decision to this effect was adopted during the monthly commemoration ceremony of MNF leader Chingsubam Akaba and oath taking function of newly elected MNF functionaries held today.
The ceremony held at MDU was graced by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba as chief guest.
Other resolutions adopted during the occasion included urging the State Government to declare the 23rd day of Manipuri calendar month Wakching as State holiday.
MNF has been observing Wakching 23 as the memorial day of burning Puyas.
To strengthen the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Phambal Hangba and Shaktam Khinba Thourang Lup constituted to install a statue of Khongnangthaba at the Manipur University premises and reinforce the fraternal ties among the peoples of the hills and valley were some other resolutions adopted by MNF.
It also resolved to support the �unified regional political force� MPP in the ensuing election.
To ensure success of MPP candidates, an election campaign committee was also constituted today.
Headed by Chingsubam Wangambi Leima, wife of late Chingsubam Akaba, as acting president 19 new executive members took oath during the ceremony.
Today's ceremony was graced by MNF advisors Tokpam Thawailemba, Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba, Toijam Laxmam Luwang and Leishangthem Tomba Meetei as president and guests of honour respectively.
