Imphal, February 19: Speaker, Dr Manirudin Sheikh has called upon the people to establish more Self Help Groups to alleviate the economically backward Muslim women and to make them self reliant.

He further maintained that it needs concerted effort from the whole Muslim community of the State to catch up with the economically more advanced communities of the State.

Taking part as chief guest in the motivation programme for establishment of self help groups organised by Lilong Kendra Self Help Group Co-ordinating Committee under NCUI Project Co-ordination Comm ittee at Ushoipokpi Bazar, Dr Sheikh observed that underdevelopment of Lilong A/C is primarily due to disunity.

He called upon the people to take up social works sincerely.

Chairman of NCUI Project Co-ordination Committee, Kh Borkishore speaking on the occasion remarked that about 150 SHGs are planned to be set up for the assembly constituency.

Manager of SBI, Thoubal Branch, Ibomcha asked people not to set up SGHs with the hope to avail loan only and called to work sincerely in association with like minded individuals.

He further observed that no other scheme is as effective and beneficial as SHGs for the economic development at the grass root level while asking the people to cultivate the habit of loan repayment.
