Intent on rejuvenating students' interest on physics and chemistry (physical science) studies as well as creating public awareness regarding impact of scientific development to everyday life Science Teachers' Forum, manipur is set to conduct various programmes from April onwards.
The programme 'Appreciating Physics in Everyday Life' to be conducted till December is part of the nationwide campaign to encourage students pursue physical science specially in view of rapid decline of interest among students and ignorance of the general public to the important subjects, said Forum representatives.
Interacting with media persons at Imphal Public Library premise today they informed that the programmes would be launched under the auspices of National Council for Science, Technology and Communication network.
Highlighting annual decline in number of students seeking admission to pursue basic and physical sciences in scientific institutions and universities executive member of the Forum L Dwijendra, who is also the head of Department (Physics) in DMC Science expressed confidence that conduct of the programmes would rekindle interest among students to opt for studies and research work that could supplement dependence on science and technology of the modern societies.
The programme in addition to giving priority to the students would have equal emphasis to generate interest among the masses on impact of physical sciences, he added.
Dwijendra further explained that the programme to be held continuously from April till December would include teachers' training programme, interaction sessions for students, development of low cost teaching, experiment, model exhibition, besides competitions on essay, quiz and painting.
