In all 198 patients, out of 250 examined, have been detected to be suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, a chronic metabolic syndrome characterised by abnormalities in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats due to lack of insulin, a hormone secreted by Pancreas in human body, during a Diabetes Detection Camp held at JN Hospital, Porompat today to coincide with the inauguration of a clinic for the diabetes patients.
Additional Director of Health Services Dr Ksh Debenkumar, Medical Superintendent of JN Hospital Dr W Motilal, and HCO president B Haridas Sharma were respectively chief guest, president and guest of honour at the event organised by Health Care Organisation (HCO), Manipur in association with the authorities of the Hospital.
The newly set up clinic will remain open to the public twice a week on every Tuesday and Friday.
Identity cards were issued to the Diabetes patients for special treatment during times of accident and subsequent management of the disease during the camp.
