Former Minister and president of Nationalist Congress party (NCP), Manipur Presdesh V Hangkhalien has condemned the killing of IGP (Intellience) T Thangthuam, IPS and the underground organisations responsible for it.
Talking to mediapersons at his office today, Hangkhalien said death of IGP (Intelligence) T Thangthuam would left behind a void which would not be able to fill.
Escalating incident of violence only shows that SPF Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh failed in maintaining law and order in the State and should step down on moral ground, he said.
The former Minister, however, cautioned the people against igniting communal flare up after the death of police officer following the failure of the Government to maintain law and order.
The police officer met his end in the unfortunate incident due to the existing confrontation between the secutity forces and the underground activists.
The innocent people are not at all responsible for the killing, Hangkhalien said, while appealing to the people to work together for restoring peace and normalcy.
The State Unit NPC chief charged the SPF Government with trying to take advantage in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election which is scheduled to held on January 17 and contended that the election notification had been issued hastily.
Even if NCP could not prepare well, the party has fielded four candidates in the election of the Municipal Council and 32 candidates in the Nagar Panchayat, out of which four of them have been declared elected withiout any contest, Hangkhalien informed, while expressing gratitude to the people for reposing thir faith on the party.
The four NCP candidates who have been declared elected uncontest, namely Laishram Memcha Devi from ward no.1 Yairipok Nagar Panchayat, Longjam Budhichandra of ward no.7, Longjam Kumar of ward no.8 and Hidam Hemabati Devi of Samurou Nagar Panchayat ward no.6 were accorded warm welcome by the party president.
