The Briefing Meeting of the Delegates to 52nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Abuja, Nigeria from September 1 to 10,2006 was held today at the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe here.
The Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Dr.Maniruddin Sheikh and the Member of Manipur Assembly Dr..MNara Singh participated at the meeting chaired by the Speaker of Lok Sabha Somnath Chatterjee who is also the vice-president of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
A 47member Indian delegation comprising of MPs and Presiding Officers/MLAs from State Legislative Assemblies led by the Speaker of Lok Sabha Somnath Chatterjee will attend the 52nd Conference hosted by the Nigeria Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Both Dr.Maniruddin Sheikh and Dr..MNara said they would take part actively in the Commonwealth Conference and raise issues concerning to Manipur in the global platform.
This year's theme of the Conference is 'Enhancing Standards of Democratic Governance and Public Perceptions of Parliament in the Commonwealth.' Six workshops on different international issues are also be conducted in the conference.
