Imphal, September 25:
In a rare medical feat, arthroscopic surgeons of Catholic Medical Charitable Hospital at Koirengei successfully performed an operation and removed a large loose body floating inside the left knee cap of a 75-year old woman patient today.
The loose body measuring 2.3 centimetres in diameter which was found floating in between the bones of the knee cap was removed through arthroscopy by a medical team led by Dr Lousingam Ibobi and Dr Victor.
The entire operation process performed on the patient identified as I Ibemhal (75) of Paona Bazar was also witnessed by a group of mediapersons.
Talking to mediapersons after the operation, Dr Ibobi said the loose body which was removed today was the largest he had ever come across.
Loose bodies that were removed in the past were no bigger than that of a pea grain.
He explained that loose body formed inside the human body is like the formation of stone in the Kidney.
Elderly persons are more likely to suffer from formation of such loose bodies and it is advisable to remove them through operation in time.
Even if the knee cap is broken, it can be reconstructed, Dr Ibobi said.
