Imphal, Aug 25: Sabungkhok Khunjao Meira Paibis have strongly condemned the Pradhan of Tellou Seijang Gram Panchayat for allegedly assaulting two Meira Paibi activists right in front of the personnel of 19 Assam Rifles and Sekmai Police yesterday.

Narrating the incident to the reporters at office of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi, Manipur this evening, Sabungkhok Khunjao Meira paibi member Waikhom Maipaksana said the manner of assaulting the two Meira Paibis activists by Pradhan Heikrujam Tombi yesterday was despicable.

She said that as the security personnel had given warning against gathering of people at night time in view of the law and order problem, the Meira paibis have been appealed to the people of the area against such gathering and organising feasting.

But on hearing about presence of around 50 persons at the Sabungkhok Khunou residence of K Ibetombi where a feasting was being arranged, the Meira paibis have gone there to stop them.

But right at the gate of the house where some personnel of 19 AR and Sekmai police were also standing on guard, stones were pelted at the Meira paibis from among the carousers, she informed.

One Maibam Memthoi was hit by the stone on her head and she fainted Aggrieved at the manner of attacking in such a manner, Ch Ibempishak expressed her resentment to Pradhan Heikrujam Tombi.

But Tomba retorted by saying that he had always wanted to beat her up and pulled her hair and kicked her several times, Meipaksana said.

While informing that the matter had already been brought to the notice of the Sekmai police station, the Meira paibi activist also condemned the failure of the police to take up any action against the unruly Pradhan.

The incident took place right in front of the eyes of personnel of 19 Assam Rifles and the Sekmai Police, the Meira Paibis asserted.
