A joint meeting of traders, transporters, police and Tourism Department officials presided by Transport Minister L Jayentakumar studied feasibility of the initiative regarding regular bus service between Moreh and Mandalay.
Speaking to The Sangai Express after the meeting, Jayentakumar informed that the meeting deliberated on security requirements, frequency of the proposed bus service in a week etc.
The Indian Embassy in Myanmar seems to have certain reservations about the bus service between the two countries due to security reasons, he said .
The participants of the meeting were also told to submit their opinions and comments in black and white so that the same can be forwarded to the Centre.
The proposed bus link between Moreh and Mandalay assumes significance and has practical potential in view of the Look East Policy and the grand project of the Trans Asian Highway.
Moreover, the bus link will prove to be a vital transit for thousands of Myanmarese Buddhists who usually make pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya every year.
The meeting was also participated by Tourism Commissioner, IG (L/O-I), ADC Moreh and SP Chandel.
