An alleged police torture victim namely Ningthoujam Doren Singh has filed a contempt case against Nambol police contending that neither was an arrest memo issued during his arrest nor was he medically examined while in police custody.
Referring to a Supreme Court decree pertaining to violation of a certain content in the Constitution regarding to non-compliance of relevant procedure of arrest person/s, Doren (29) of oinam Mayai Leikai sought action against Nambol OC S Nandababu Sharma and an ASI ranked official of the same police station M Polendro.
In the contempt case filed yesterday before the Gauhati High Court, doren also accused the police personnel of inhumane treatment while in their custody on May 28 when he was arrested on charges of stealing a video camera belonging to one kh Ingo.
Doren also presented a detailed account leading to his thrashing including intervention of the local MLA and subsequent release only to be implicated on the same charges.
The Court is yet to fix date for the next hearing, informed source said.
