One cadre each of the banned PULF and UNLF organisations have been apprehended by teams of Imphal East district police commandos in the last 48 hours.
According to a statement issued by Addl SP (IE) Md Quayamuddin Shah today the UNLF cadre namely Laimayum Suraj alias Akas (25) s/o L Joy Sharma of Naoremthong Apimisemba Manghiden Bazar was arrested from near Imphal Hospital, RIMS Road at around 10.30 am today.
Suraj joined UNLF in March this year through one Saityajit and was involved in extortions from the general public, Govt officials and private sector for party fund, the statement added.
The PULF cadre identified as Md Gulbar Saha alias Alam (19) s/o Md Ghani Shah of Kairang Awang Leikai was rounded up from Thambalkhong at around 2.30 pm yesterday, the informed the Addl SP adding that one hand written demand letter of the PULF had been recovered from the individual.
Md Gulbar, who joined PULF in October 2007 through one Inao alias Romio of Kairang Kashi Leikai and trained at Sohra in Thoubal district had been indulging in extortion of money from the general public, Govt officials etc, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and troops of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles netted a PREPAK activist from Oinam Bazar area at around 1.30 pm today while the security forces were deployed on frisking and checking duty.
The captive has been identified as Wahengbam Deepak alias Khambaton (25) s/o Dhojo Singh of Nambol Khathong.
Deepak is said to have undergone basic military training at Myanmar in the outfit's 21st batch.
Body disposal: Body of a male who was one of two armed youths gunned down by a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and personnel of 1st Manipur Rifles on August 20 at Khumanpalli near Khuman Lampak Sports Complex would be disposed off in case the corpse is not claimed within August 25, informed a police statement.
of the two victims one had been later identified as L Romenkumar Singh (18) s/o L Radhamani Singh of Thoubal Khunou and subsequently handed over to family members while the other corpse had been lying at RIMS morgue, the statement maintained and added that necessary procedures for disposal of the body will be initiated if nobody identifies or claim by August 25 .
It also recounted that the combined team had recovered one 9 mm pistol (Norinco) made in China with one live round and three empty cases besides a Chinese made hand-grenade from the deceased duo.
