Probe instituted into death of Nongmaithem Tomba

Imphal, May 21: District Magistrate of Bishnupur Aleng AS Shimray, IAS has been appointed as the authority to conduct a Magisterial enquiry into the death of Nongmaithem Tomba Singh ( 35) s/o late N Bashikhong Singh of Kumbi Kangjeibung Mapal.

Tomba was forcibly taken away from his house on the night on April 26 last by personnel of 7 Assam Rifles posted at Sagang and shot him death at the gate of his house.

Issuing a notification in connection with instituting the inquiry on May 14, but the copy of which was made available to the press through DIPR only today, the District Magistrate has asked all persons interested in giving evidence and statements either in person or in writing on affidavit before him within 15 days from the date of issuing the notification (i.e May 14) so as to enable to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the incident and persons responsible.
