With much pomp and gaiety, the golden jubilee of the United Youth Development Organisation (UYDOB), Bongbal Kholen of Sadar Hills was celebrated today.
A statement issued by the Organisation noted that it was established in 1955 and recounted of its contributions to the village.
A major achievement of the UYDOB has been rebuilding of Bongbal Kholen village four times in a span of just seven months after being raided and burnt down repeatedly during the ethnic conflict of 1994 which claimed many innocent lives in the State in addition to rendering hundreds of women and children homeless.
Speaking as chief guest on the golden jubilee celebration, social worker J Haokip called upon the youths to maintain peace and harmony in the village.
Taking into account of its enviable feat of 95 per cent literacy rate, he urged the youths to make Bongbal Kholen village an ideal one.
The chief guest of the golden jubilee celebration J Haokip stressing on the maxim 'To forgive is divine' further asked the villagers to forget the painful past and to look forward to a brighter and harmonious future so as to make the village the pride of the whole community.
