The Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) observed Artistes Day today like every year in remembrance of its artiste Khomdram Dhanachandra on his death anniversary.
On the occasion two artistes of the MDU, Ksh Landhoni and Akham Khirgopal who is also the vice president of the MDU were also honoured with presentations with citations and walking sticks.
In the 40th observance function organised by the Artistes Day Celebration Committee, MDU, MLA Kh Ratankumar graced as chief guest and presided over by president of the MDU, Kshetrimayum Ibohal.
MLA Ratankumar speaking as chief guest expressed disappointment on the decreasing popularity of activities of the MDU which was once most popular theatre centre and attracted thousands of audience and observed that it was due to coming of many unions.
He also expressed the need for producing new plays in new medium suited with time to attract audience once again.
Offering of floral tributes to the yesteryears artistes who are no more in this world and talking on the accounts of theatre forms of pass years by Chanambam Bimol, Natyabushan award winner marked the observance function.
