Secretary of North East Council (NEC) paid a visit to the Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal here today and had a fruitful interaction with the Director Prof L Fimate and other heads of Departments of the Institute, according to media adviser of RIMS.
At the outset, Prof Fimate acquainted the visiting NEC Secretary with the working and achievements of RIMS which has produced 2700 MBBS graduates and 591 post-graduates since its inception.
The Institute also has some regional centres like the Regional Cancer Centre, the Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Centre, the Clinical Psychology and the Diploma course in language, speech and hearing.
Thus, RIMS has been bridging the gap in medical education and healthcare in the region.
The Director also pointed out some problems relating to infrastructures, equipments, outdated furniture, etc, the media advisor said in a statement.
In return, the visiting NEC Secretary assured that all these problems will be discussed threadbare and remedial measures taken up in the next meeting of the Executive Council of RIMS.
The NEC Secretary said that before the take over of RIMS by the Union Health Ministry, the Centre�s priority had been the development of the North East India Gandhi Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Shillong.
So, he clarified, now NEC has very little that can be done relating to RIMS.
However, he assured that he would make personal approaches since high officials are his batch during the IAS probation.
Assuring his full support to RIMS, Phalguni said that during the transitional period there are some administrative hiccups which need to be adjusted.
He also appealed to the professors to see to it that the expensive equipments are properly used and not left to gather dust.
