Kohima, August 17: The GPRN/NSCN-IM Angami Region has expressed shock over the alleged barbaric act perpetrated by cadres of Khaplang group upon a senior student leader, Medo Yhokha at Jail colony and another person Neiketouzo, yesterday evening at Kohima.

KK Angami, Care Taker Angami Region, GPRN/NSCN-IM in a release stated that Medo is one of the vibrant student leader.

Nevertheless, the NSCN-IM asserted that the insensible act of the Khaplang group is to create fear psychosis amongst the mass and their thirst for money has reached the zenith as they even started to extort using their arm power.

It alleged that Khaplang group, which has always been a puppet of the Govt of India has once again shown its derogatory attitude.

Maintaining that as Nagas "our struggle for sovereignty is against the Indian aggressors who have been suppressing the Naga birth right for decades", he said that such acts should be condemned by one and all.

The GPRN also warned the Khaplang group to restrain its cadres from such unwarranted acts against innocent public lest action would be fully initiated against them.

Meanwhile, in a separate release, the Zeliangrong Union Kohima condemning the assault in the strongest term labeled the incident as 'intolerable of a national worker'.

ZUK president K Mark Guing and secretary Amos Nsading also called upon all section of people for a united effort to erase such action in future from the Naga society.

Meanwhile infuriated over the irresponsive attitude of the NSCN-K authorities towards the call for justification over last night's incident in Kohima given by Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and Angami Students' Union (ASU), volunteers of the two organizations forced closure of all business establishments in and around Kohima town today.

Mention may be made that following last night's incident at Jail Colony, where a NSCN-K cadre, identified as Yehokhu Sema had made an attempt on the life of Medo Yhokha, ex-president of ASU, the leaders of AYO and ASU had set a dead line till this morning for the NSCN-K authority to identify the culprit and clarify on the happening through a meeting at ASU's office.

However, sources said that the NSCN-K authority failed to attend the meeting even as the two organizations waited for hours and finally decided to close down all the shops protesting against the nonresponse of the NSCN-K authority.

The volunteers reportedly moved in several vehicles from BOC area threatening business establishments and shops to close down for an indefinite period from 12 noon and within an hour Kohima town had a deserted look with few people moving around.

Meanwhile, sources in the affected camp (AYO & ASU) have informed that the closure of shops is not targeted against any particular faction or group but to demonstrate that the public have had enough of harassment, extortion, atrocities etc from armed cadres or so called national workers.

They said that the closure would continue till the meeting scheduled for tomorrow at Angami Public Organisation's office takes some concrete decision.
