Government has announced a hike in the advertisement budget allocation for small and regional language newspapers from the current 25 per cent to 40 per cent of the total budget.
This was announced by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister PR Dasmunshi at the annual conference of Indian Languages Newspaper Association here yesterday where the life sketch of Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Singh was also released.
Singh urged the Minister to enhance the allocation budget for small newspapers to 50 per cent from the current 25 per cent of the total budget under the head after which he made the announcement.
Dasmunshi said the government is also thinking of making a policy for safegurading the interests of such small newspapers, an official release here said.
