Unable to bear the monetary demands of the proscribed KYKL, shopkeepers doing business along RIMS road suspended their day's activities and staged a protest demonstration today.On November 12, some persons who identified themselves as cadres of the KYKL asked verbally all the shops located alongside RIMS road from RIMS South gate to Nityananda temple to pay Rs 30,000 each.
The unidentified persons also gave the shopkeepers one telephone number.
They came back the next day and asked the shopkeepers as to why they did not make any phone call.
They also reportedly said, "our seniors are furious".
Later in the day, when the shopkeepers dialled the telephone number, one Thoithoiba who identified himself as a leader of the outfit picked up the phone.
The individuals who demanded the money in the first place came again on November 14 .
During the protest demonstration today, the shopkeepers put up placards which read as "Withdraw unaffordable monetary demands", "Don't cut off livelihood of the shopkeepers" etc.
