Imphal, November 14 2008:
Peeved with the failure of the authority concerned to look into the woes of the people of Chingai sub-division and other border areas caused by non-completion of Nunghar-Khamasom-Poi-Chingai road development work, the Yang Raphei Conference along with the Action Committee on Nunghar-Khamasom-Poi-Chingai Road under CRF have decided to launch a series of agitation from November 17 .
-In the first phase of the agitation, the PWD Ukhrul office will be sealed/picketed followed by more intense forms of agitation in case the Government fails to come up with a positive response in the intervening period, informed a press release issued by YRC.
Even as Rs 3.57 crores were sanctioned under Central Road Fund for development of 16 kms long stretch of the road in the first phase, Rs 1.75 crore had been withdrawn without executing the work satisfactorily.
In addition, there is no sign of resuming the road development work which has been halted for the last several months.
The Works Minister visited the work site several times and assured the people of completing the road development work by February last.
Moreover, three engineers were suspended for irregularities in supervising the road development
work.
But till today, the road development work remains far from completion, said YRC while conveying that the villagers of Huishu and Poi have been suffering a lot because of the poor road infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Raphei Katamnao Long has assured active support to YRC's decision to launch agitation from November 17 against non-construction and non-completion of roads in the area.
