Imphal, February 10 2026:
In continuation of their ongoing effort to preserve and uphold traditional customs, Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin, Manipur (EYOL) organised Khurai Meepham at Ima Chingjoibi community hall today.
Addressing the gathering, EYOL general secretary M Dhananjoy said that EYOL's initiative is focused on stopping excessive expenditure during weddings, which is against Meitei customs.
Addressing the alleged degradation and corruption of traditional rituals and ceremonies, he highlighted his concerns regarding cake cutting, exchange of rings, consumption of alcohol and other intoxicants, organising musical events during heijingpot, thabal chongba and dancing etc at weddings or related events.
Such new trends are a perversion of indigenous Meitei traditions, he said.
Notably, EYOL's series of discussion sessions are being conducted across 40 Assembly Constituencies in Manipur.
Today's event was attended by EYOL president Th Ibohal, Ima Chingjoibi Semgat Shagat Lup, Ipum Pat Laiphamlen Kanba Lup, YOFC, FUC, Yening Hunba VLF, Chumthang Mangal VLF and representatives of Khurai Konsam Leikai Khurai Kanba Apunba Nupi Lup.
