The 13 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) will celebrate its 50th raising day on February 15, informed a release of PRO IGAR (S) that also highlighted a brief history of the unit's service in guarding the North East frontiers, maintaining internal security and carrying out various civic action programmes for the welfare of the people in remote parts of Nagaland and Manipur in the past five decades.
According to the PRO, the battalion was raised in Gaya of Bihar on February 15, 1958 and the unit deployed in Ghaspani (Nagaland) in March 1959 and then at Dimapur in September of the same year.
The battalion is informed to have shifted from Mon district (Nagaland) to manipur in 2003 for the 'Op Hifazat' in Ukhrul district.
Highlighting that the unit is continuously striving to assist the people of Manipur in all its aspect thus winning the heart and goodwill of the masses, the PRO said such warm cordiality with the people manifests and upholds century old tradition of the Assam Rifles.
In a span of half a century the unit has excelled in all professional spheres and has earned a plethora of accolades and decorations evolving itself into a true force responding to all challenges with elan, the statement added.
