Imphal, October 08 2009: The Democratic Councillors' Front (DCF), which is in the Opposition bench of the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) has questioned why the Government has been sidelining the no-confidence motion raised against chairperson of the Council RK Ranisana who is in the minority now.

Addressing a press conference in the office chamber of the Council's vice chairman today, spokesperson of the DCF and councillor of ward no 7 Ch Joykumar informed that out of the total 18 Congress councillors in the 27-member Council, 10 of them have joined DCF which already has 14 councillors of its own.

Since June 27 this year, all the agenda put up from the side of the chairperson have failed to get majority and the inability of the eight standing committees of the Council to function indicates that chairperson Ranisana has failed in the administration.

So why the Government has been subduing the no-confidence motion raised against her, Joykumar demanded to know.

Reacting to the claim of Ranisana in media that over Rs 4 crores revenue had been generated by the Council since she became the chairman in August 2008, Joykumar asserted that investigation into the matter has revealed that the revenue collection was not over Rs 4 crores but just over Rs 4 lakhs.

It appears that Ranisana does not know the difference between Rs 4 crores and Rs 4 lakhs, Joykumar said, while questioning why should there be ceasework strike in the Council if over Rs 4 crores revenue could be generated within a span of little over one year.

Countering to the claim of Ranisana that pending salary of only 11 months out of the total 29 months could not be disbursed during her time, Joykumar said that this shows that during her time, Ranisana has not been able to pay salary for not more than one month on an average.

Condemning the misleading claim of providing Rs 1 crore by the Government as one time grant to the Council to meet its financial requirements in response to the joint efforts of the councillors when the actual amount sanctioned was Rs 88 lakhs, Joykumar questioned from where the remaining amount had come.

He also drew the attention of the Govt for taking up necessary steps at the earliest possible in connection with calling a requisition meeting of the no-confidence motion raised against the chairperson who is not only in the minority now but has also failed in the administration.
