Impahl, September 08, 2010::
Petroleum products, particularly petrol, which have been upgraded qualitatively to match with the demands of vehicles with Bharat Stage III version will soon be on sale from October 1 here.
Towards this end, oil depots of IOC located at Chingmeirong are being cleansed to stock the upgraded fuel, which will jell with motor vehicles with Bharat Stage III version.
A reliable source informed that petrol and diesel stocked at Chingmeirong depot were meant for vehicles with Bharat II version.
While many of the tanks are in the process of being cleansed, some tanks which have been already cleansed have been filled with the upgraded Bharat III fuel version.
As all the available stocks of Bharat II version need to be disposed for cleansing the tanks before filling them up with Bharat III version, no Bharat II version of fuels are being stocked at the depot.

With a view to check air pollution, Imphal Divisional Office of the IOC and Chingmeirong oil depot have been intimated by the Guwahati Regional Office of the IOC to switch to Bharat III version of petrol and diesel from October 1. In accordance to the instruction given by the Guwahati regional office, Bharat III version of fuel should be stocked at Chingmeirong depot before the more refined version of petrol and diesel are formally introduced in Manipur from October 1. The regional office has also specifically directed the Imphal divisional office not to release Bharat III fuel to any oil pump before October 1. Even if petrol and diesel cannot be drawn from the depot, there is no need for alarm, said the source.
As a large number of oil tankers loaded during the month of August and which were stranded at different places outside the State have been steadily arriving, there will be enough fuel for use in the intervening period before Bharat III version is released from the depot.
Oil tankers arriving at Imphal would not be allowed to unload at Chingmeirong depot but would be made to unload directly at oil pumps with necessary challans after due checking by depot officials.
At present, many loaded oil tankers are stranded at Khatkhatti.
Nevertheless, in case of extreme shortage of fuel, before introduction of Bharat III version, necessary arrangements would be made to distribute fuel with due permission from the IOC.
This reporter visited the Chingmeirong depot yesterday and oil tanks were found being cleansed.
The regional office further asked the Imphal divisional office and the depot officials to procure Bharat III fuel within September 11 and divert the same within September 15 without which no challans should issued for fuel to oil pumps, added the source.
