Imphal, November 06:
While counting the achievements of the Congress-led SPF Government in the last five years including many long standing demands of the people, AICC secretary and in-charge of Manipur Sanjay Bapna has attributed the success to the stability of the SPF Government under Congress party and its ability to last full term.
Speaking at a Congress workers' conference organised by Imphal East DCC and Thongju Block Congress Committee at Khongman zone III today, Sanjay Bapna acknowledged the faith of people reposed in the Congress party which took the greatest part in the freedom struggle of the country.
It was because of people's confidence in one of the oldest political party (Congress) of the country that the SPF Government could last its full tenure, he noted.
Saying that the Congress party which sees no difference in various religions and communities, has been always firm in its stand for the unity and integrity of the country, Bapna asserted that the UPA Government is still committed to its common minimum programme in which it was declared that the territorial boundary of the States would not altered under any circumstance.
He further claimed that the UPA Government has launched many welfare programmes for tribal peoples and women.
Asserting that various welfare schemes have been initiated in the North Eastern under the leadership of AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, he appealed to the people to ensure return of Congress party to power in the forthcoming Assembly elections so that many more development schemes can be implemented and completed.
Addressing the conference, MPCC president Gaikhangam alleged that regional political parties were all bogus patriots remembering their State only at the time elections.
He noted that the election propaganda of regional parties, that Manipur would be dismembered if people vote for Congress, has no takers at all.
Saying that regional parties could not encompass hill districts and look beyond the valley, Gaikhangam remarked that regional parties have shrunken Manipur and have virtually bifurcated Manipur into hills and valley.
As such, regional parties would never be able to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, he said while claiming that only the Congress party which sees no difference in various religions and supported by all ethnic groups would be able to preserve the integrity of Manipur.
He further remarked that the combined regional party set up by individuals after they were refused admission into Congress while being a member of their own parties would not last long.
The Congress workers' conference was also attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs Bijoy Koijam, N Biren and other Congress leaders.
They also counted the various achievements of the Congress led Govt in the last five years.
