Model English School, Sinakeithei in Ukhrul yesterday observed its annual Awana Day with the main objective of building moral character, discipline, spiritual upliftment and leadership quality from childhood days.
Manipur Awana Missionary Home steward Jamang was chief guest of the function and Assistant Teacher of the School Yamkhami M Risom was the leader of the function which was also attended by Church deacons, representatives of the village authority, leaders of different departments, former teachers and students, wellwishers and parents of the students.
The opening prayer of the Awana Day function was dilivered by Pastor of Sinakeithei Baptish Church Rev Ngaranmi.
It was followed by presentation of garlands to the chief guest and cutting of the ribbon to declared the opening of the function formally.
The school students wearing colourful Awana vests presented beautiful songs, tribe wise songs, choreography, recitation of Bible verse and other interesting games and sports.
Giving the welcome address, School principal V Khamrang explained that the main objective of the Awana Day celebration is to uplift the spiritual growth, to nourish the moral character, discipline, to unearth leadership qualities and many other latent potentials, to enhance peace and harmony in the area where different communities are living together.
In his address as chief guest, Jamang encouraged the students to grow in stature and wisdom and in favour with God and man.
He also called upon the parents, teachers and all other elders to train the children in the way they should go and to teach them to fear and love the Almighty God.
He took serious note of the fact that many children/youths are today abusing drug and becoming HIV/AIDS positive.
The chief guest and the Sinakeithei Shanao Long also donated a sum of Rs 100 and Rs 200 respectively to the organiser of the function.
School Awana Director KS Yaruingam, Youth Chaplain ZV Ngalengmi, village secretary NG Joel, Church Deacon LV Stephen, Women Society chairperson PS Lewis, SSL chairperson KR Chonmithing and Yamkhami Risom were also among those who graced the dais.
In the afternoon session, housewise competition on various events were organised.
Parents have expressed their happiness and said it was a wonderful day for all to come together and share their opinions on various issues.
The function concluded successfully.
