Imphal, November 01:
Demanding resolution of the problem of the part time lecturers at the earliest possible by treating its a human problem in the interest of the suffering student community, Govt College Part Time Lecturers' Assn, Manipur was warned of intensifying its ongoing agitation by taking recourse to mass court arrest of all the terminated part timers and their family members.
Announcing this in a statement, Association president L Gojendra Singh said the State Government should realise that its attempt to scuttle the rights of the part time lecturers as well as of the student community to have uninterrupted academic calendar by brushing aside the issue is seriously affecting the functioning the higher education sector of the State.
The State Government should also realise that levelled false charges after 466 part time lecturers who have been taking up 40 percent of the responsibility of teaching community in the colleges to save its face is not the right decision, Gojendra said while asserting that at the time of their appointment, all the 499 have fulfilled the prescribed RR and later a committee set up by the Govt had also declared all of them as qualified in 2000.So it is meaningless to remove them from the service after being utilised for many years on the alleged ground of not fulfilling the new RR.
In fact many of the part timers are also trying to complete their M Phil and Ph D degree, Gojendra said.
