Imphal, May 31: All the officials of Manipur University involved in calling off BEd examination without furnishing any explanation should resign on moral ground.

Taking strong exception to such irregularity, the Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) has demanded a definite clarification from the MU authority concerning the sudden cancellation of the exam schedule.

Briefing media persons on the matter today, the MSF vice-president Atabuddin, auditor general H Chandradhon and advisor Pheiroijam Nando Luwang informed that as per the exam schedule, examination on the subject "Method of Teaching Languages" was supposed to be held yesterday.

When the appearing candidates came to give their exam yesterday, they were taken aback seeing the notification for sudden postponement of the exam.

The notice put up at the exam centre of Dr Kamal Indoor Stadium, MU did not give reasons for calling off the exam without any prior information.

Maintaining that any postponement of scheduled exams should be justified by rational explanations, the MSF leaders decried that the MU authority has been still keeping the candidates in dark about the sudden cancellation of yesterday's exam schedule.

Demanding that the MU authority should furnish proper clarification for calling off the exam and reschedule of the postponed exam should be notified to the public at the earliest, they cautioned that the MU authority should not come up with fabricated excuses or manufactured causes.

In case the MU authority fails to come out with rational and factual clarification, MSF would not remain silent, warned Atabuddin.

On the other hand, chairman of MU Examination Committee Prof N Joykumar and Controller H Rajmani had a meeting with MSF functionaries at the latter's office yesterday night.

During the meeting, it was urged upon to publish the reasons for the sudden cancellation of the exam schedule, disclosed Nando Luwang.

Observing that the postponement of the exam without prior notification not only betrayed the academic interest of students but also made a mockery of the academic calendar framed by MU itself, the MSF leaders demanded that all officials involved in such erratic action should resign on moral ground.

Moreover, the high expectation of the people of Manipur that MU will start abiding by established rules and norms after its conversion into a central university has been reduced to nought because of some MU officials working only in their individual interests, noted the MSF functionaries.
