Carrying on with its Anti-Drug Campaign, the special task force of the Democratic Students� Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) convened a mass public meeting at Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa with the objective of spreading awareness on the harmfulness of drug abuse and other intoxicants.
Lilong A/C MLA Dr Maniruddin Sheikh, president of DESAM HQ L Romesh Meitei and principal of Lilong Haoreibi College Md Khalidur Rahman were chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function.
OC in charge of Lilong Police Station Md Salam, HIV/AIDS in charge of JN Hospital L Radharani, social worker Md Abdul Halim, AMMSU president Md Subhanddin and advocate Md Aslam were also among the resource persons who shared their opinions during the meeting.
After a serious of discussion on the menace of drug abuse among the people, especially the youths and students, the congregation took six different resolutions.
The resolutions include to ban sale of any intoxicant items in or near the campus of schools and colleges, not to allow students to go out of the campus till the school/college hour is over, to urge the parents/guardians to dissuade their children to use bikes and other engined vehicles for going to tuitions and schools/colleges, exerting pressure on the Government for formulating a drug policy of the State, to include the lessons in the syllabus and curriculum on the harmfulness of drugs among others.
Teacher training : In response to the invitation of the programme officer of VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida for participating in the training programme on �Ensuring enrolment and retention in schools, elimination of child labour�, All Manipur School Teachers� Association (AMSTA) has deputed a team of women teachers from primary schools of Manipur.
The team is led by A Sanahanbi Devi.
The delegates from Manipur would be participating in the training programme as representatives of primary schools� women teachers of North Eastern States.
