A memorial function to commemorate the recognition of Kharam tribe as a Scheduled Tribe by the Indian Constitution was held today at Kharam Pallen in Sadar Hills.
The function graced by Prof Gangumei Kamei as chief guest and president of Naga Women's Union, Manipur, Dr Gina Shangkham as functional president was attended among others by president of AMUCO R Yangshosong and chiefs of Kharam tribe.
Although recognised as a Scheduled Tribe in 2003, all the facilities due to a Scheduled Tribe have not been extended to Kharam tribe till date, noted president of KTUM in a memorandum submitted to the chief guest.
He further appealed to the authority concerned to provide tap water to Kharam Pallen and to improvise the road from Kotlen to Kharam.
