Chandel, November 20: Movement of people and vehicles along Pallel-Chandel road has been affected since yesterday after an iron bridge located along the route gave in under the weight of an over-loaded Tata truck carrying cement.

The incident occurred at around 11.30 am yesterday.

The overloaded truck which was coming from Imphal carrying cement bags and heading towards Chandel district headquarters, however, did not suffered any substantial damage.

The bridge is located near Liwa Khullen, 6 kms north of Chandel Police Station and has been lying in a precarious condition for many years.

The bridge reportedly gave in after the rear wheels were about to cross over the bridge.

Following the incident, all the vehicles including the passenger buses coming from Imphal are terminating at Liwa Khullen on the Pallel side and the passengers have to walk on foot to reach the district headquarters.
