The Science Teachers' Forum, Manipur (STFM) and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan organised Manipur Vigyan Jatha in commemoration of the Year of Scientific Awareness, 2004 in a big way with and overwhelming response from the public at Senapati and Maram area on March 30 and 31.The Jatha, which is a National project of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), New Delhi and was conducted under the guidance of Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC).
Demonstration on food adulteration by Dr Ch Indira Devi, puppet show by P Iboton and his associates, poster display by I Richy, demonstration of scientific models by P Joychandra were conducted besides distribution of leaflets and booklets by the officials of Science Teachers' Forum, Manipur and film show on medical plants, conservation of nature, mushroom cultivation and orchids of Manipur.
Moreover, District Youth Co-ordinator, NYK Senapati Y Laksman Singh and Vice president of Science Teachers' Forum, Manipur L Dorendro Singh highlighted on the relevance of observing Year of Scientific Awareness, 2004, its objective, coverage and future plan of action to hundreds of people gathered at Christian English School, Senapati and Don Bosco, Maram.
District level officers like DPO S Achou, District Supply Officer Puni joined the Jatha as chief guest and guest of honour at Senapati.
Besides teachers, students and officials, many NOG activists and youth club members also participated in the Jatha conducted with STFM general secretary L Jugindro and executive member Ch Mobi as team leaders.
Principal of Don Bosco College, Maram Fr Paleli appreciated the efforts made by NYK Senapati for the benefit of the youths and Students of the district.
The Jatha would continue its programmes and activists at Kangpokpi, Keithelmanbi and Motbu-ng area of Senapati district.
Meanwhile, a Vigyan Jatha programme for Imphal East District was organised at All Backward Classes and Scheduled Caste Welfare School, Lairembi Leirak, Keirao today.
The programme was jointly organised by Manipur Science Communicators' Association (MASCA) and Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) and was sponsored by National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India.
Science lecture, puppet show, poster exhibition, model exhibition, science film show, etc, were some of the main highlight of the programmes attended around 300 students and 140 local volunteers.
Senior Grade Lecturer of Imphal College Ch Rajendro gave a lecture of Disaster Management.
