Imphal, August 25: The two people who were abandoned after being shot dead by unidentified gunmen from near Umathel Keithel under Waikhong Police Station yesterday morning have been identified.

They are Md Shaukat AH (40) s/o Md Rafi Ali of Lilong Turel Ahanbi and Md Saheruddin (35) s/o Md Jaheruddin of Lilong Nungei.

Md Rafi Ali was said to be working as a teacher in Alpha English School at Lilong.

Both the bodies have been taken from the morgue of RIMS Hospital for conducting post-mortem at Lilong PHC and later to be handed over to their respective family members.

Meanwhile strongly condemning the killing of Shaukat Ali a large number of people came out on the street and blocked the road at Lilong bazar today evening.

Members of the All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation, AMSU, MSF, DESAM Lilong branch and school students blocked the road at lilong bazar from 4 pm.

On hearing the news, the local MLA Maniruddin, Thoubal DC and Thoubal SP rushed to spot and took stock of the position.

During the meeting, the student bodies submitted a six charter of memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal.

The memorandum demanded the punishment of the people behind the killing of Shaukat Ali, ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs and appointment of a family member of the deceased to a Government post.

The DC assured the agitating people that the demands raised would be highlighted to the Chief Minister.

The officer also tried to arrange a meeting between the students and the Chief Minister.

After the DC personally appealed to the people to call of the road blockade the same was lifted at about 7.25 pm today.

Later at about 7.30 pm a team of the student bodies and the DC went to meet the Chief Minister.
