Presentation of well researched papers, sharing of views and ideas and talks on different topics on Urology and the use of technology to help the specialists in their work marked the first day of the three day XV annual conference of the Urological Society of India, East Zone chapter at the Jubilee hall of RIMS yesterday.
Experts from different parts of the country turned up on the first day of the seminar, being held after a gap of 10 years, to share their views and experiences.
Health Minister L Nandakumar inaugurated the seminar while MU VC Prof NB Singh, Prof L Fimate, Director of RIMS, Prof Dilip Karmakar, Prof K Sashidharan, Dr Ajay Kumar, and Prof Sekharjit Sinam were seated at the dais on the opening day.
Addressing the gathering of experts and super specialists, Nandakumar said that holding such a seminar will go a long way in improving health care, particularly in the field of Urology as doctors from different parts of the country can interact, exchange notes and debate things over.
Though kidney cases are on the rise in Manipur, the State still has a long way to go to provide the requisite infrastructure to treat patients with kidney ailment, admitted the Health Minister.
Nandakumar expressed hope that the Urological Society of India will be able to extend all their help and co-operation in helping Manipur meet the shortages.
In his presidential address, Prof LK Sahu said that India has made rapid strides in the field of Urology in the last 10 years.
However there is still a lot to be done in the eastern region of the country, he admitted.
To overcome the problem, the attention of the Medical Council of India and National Board of Urology is needed, he stressed.
