Imphal, October 30:
Taking strong exception the extreme torture and bestial meted out to Ningthoujam Shajou of Koutruk village by 4 AR posted at Loitang Khunou, the Koutruk Nupi Marup has made all preparations to take out a protest rally on November 2 towards the camp of 4 AR with the slogan "Go back Indian Army".
A statement issued by the Marup informed that Shajou was released only after torturing him in third degree with the fabricated allegation that he was a cadre of an UG group.
The Nupi Marup contended that Shajou was an innocent person engaging himself in cultivation works.
The decision to undertake the protest rally was in accordance to the resolution of the public meeting held on October 23 at Koutruk ground.
The inaction of the State Govt against the errant and high handed AR personnel has also compelled people to launch strong protest movements against the excesses of security forces, asserted the statement.
Saying that the atrocity of the AR personnel did not spare even women, it disclosed that the wife of Shajou, Yumshangbi was seriously injured and still bed ridden following the physical assault by 4 AR personnel.
Asserting that the people of Manipur should not remain passive any more in the face of gross violation of human rights and wanton killings by security forces in total disregard to all international laws and established practices, it appeal to all the people to join the proposed protest rally against the excesses of Assam Rifles.
It further declared that the people's movement against such human right violations would go on until and unless the guilty AR personnel are booked under law and awarded commensurate punishment.
Protest continues against killing by AR : In protest against the alleged killing of Pukhrambam Suranjoy by 4 AR in their custody, a sit-in-protest was staged today at Sangakpham Bazar by the Meira Paibis and students of the area.
P Suranjoy was slain by 4 AR personnel just 50 feet away from his own home at around 11 pm of October 27.In connection with the alleged cold blooded murder of Suranjoy of Laipham Khunou, a JAC was constituted on October 28.Since then the JAC along with people has been protesting the excesses of the Assam Rifles while refusing to claim the corpse of the deceased.
A memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister in connection with the murder of P Suranjoy.
Today's protesters hold placards reading, "Stop State terrorism", "Don't kill innocent persons", "Repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 " etc.
