Farmers who succeeded in producing outstanding crop yield have been feted in the State Level Farmers' Meet held today at GM Hall here.
During the farmers' meet which was attended by farmers coming from different districts of Manipur, Kharif Campaign 2010 was formally launched by Agriculture Minister N Loken.
The farmers' meet was attended by Agriculture Minister N Loken, Agriculture Commissioner Letkhogin Haokip and Agriculture Director L Palendro as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Successful farmers/farmers' groups were also awarded during the meet.
The Society of People's Advancement bagged first prize in paddy production for their yield of 11,040 Kgs per hectare.
First prize for mustard seed production went to Nongchup Imphal Loumi Shinmi Lup for harvesting 1400 Kgs per hectare.
The Society of People's Advancement again bagged the honour of harvesting maximum quantity of potato of 17,000 Kgs from one hectare.
For each of these categories, the first winners were given cash incentive of Rs 30,000 each.
The second and third prize winners received Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, N Loken said that the State Government would make all efforts to provide fertilizers to farmers in spite of the continuing blockade.
He said that arrangements have been completed to ferry fertilizers using security escorts.
On behalf of the farmers, president of the Irabot Foundation Manipur sought attention of the Government to table Agricultural Land Protection bill in the State Assembly in view of the ever shrinking agricultural land.
