A one day seminar on Poverty Alleviation and Employment Generation Through Cooperative was organised by the NCUI�� Women Cooperative Education Project, Imphal East at Citizens' Club, Soibam Leikai.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the seminar as guest of honour, president of Manipur State Cooperative Union Kh Borkishore noted the necessity of a new cooperative policy for a strong cooperative movement.
Under the ineffective Manipur Cooperative Act 1976, cooperative movement in Manipur remains in its nascent stage without any progress.
On the other hand, the Manipur State Cooperative Union is also facing severe fund paucity, he said.
The inaugural session of the seminar was also attended Imphal East Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha L Basanti, Citizen Club president G Badal as chief guest and functional president respectively.
Sub-Registrar of Cooperative Department Kh Tomba asserted that cooperative movement can guarantee employment in both rural and urban areas.
One can be assured of self-employment through cooperative, he said.
The fundamental essence of cooperative lies on self-assistance, self-determination, self-administration, equal participation and equal distribution, Tomba elaborated.
Through cooperative one can assure employment to oneself just as a producers' cooperative society shall take up floriculture, horticulture, weaving, handicraft etc.
Moreover, transport cooperative society and insurance cooperative society may be successfully constituted to benefit all members, Tomba observed.
