Imphal, May 28:
Protection of students' rights day was observed today as '17th Students' Emancipation Day' at Moirang Multi-Purpose Higher Secondary School.
A statement issued by AMSU informed that the observation is in remembrance of the three students-Ibohal of Ningthoukhong, Urikhinbam Khellen and Kumam Sarat of Moirang Khuman killed by the then OC of Moirang police station.
The observation was graced by AMSU president Sinam Prakash, president of Bishnupur District Committee Chingkheinganba Tongbram Chingkheinganba Tongbram and Principal of Moirang Multi-Purpose Hr Sec School S Kumar as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The observation was marked by flag hoisting, offering of floral tributes and 1 minute silence to pay obeisance to the murdered students, mentioned the statement.
Speaking on the occasion Prakash alleged that the State Government seems to be more interested in the security forces rather than providing adequate infrastructure for the students.
He further questioned the motive behind huge expenditures on security forces while the State Government claimed to be unable to appoint requisite teachers and withholding salaries of teachers in the name of sick financial condition of the State.
Observing that the Manipuri society is enduring a heavy burden, S Kumar noted that in a State inhabited by different ethnic groups, all must unite together and meet the challenges rather than striving for disintegration, conveyed the statement.
