Ukhrul, January 28 2010: Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Kazipphung, Dungrei, Vashimtang, and Awungtang of Ukhrul have taken strict action of checking of liquor carrying in buses and private vehicles plying on the Imphal-Ukhrul section of the NH 150 since last November 2009 .

Secretary of the JAC, RSN Wungyothei speaking to this correspondent today said they have seized more than 300 bottles of foreign liquor and local blended during the drive so far.

He further said the JAC is imposing a fine of Rs 2000 and above as a penalty to those vehicles found carrying liquors.

He also said for the last one week there was no report of seize liquor which shows concern citizens are cooperating to what they are doing for the betterment of the community.

He also appeals to all the loving citizens to extend fullest cooperation.

On the other hand the Golden Jubilee cum Sports Meet of the Northern Raphei Students' Union began here today at Kharasom CV.

The meet will till February 4 next.

According to the executive council, thousands of peoples including neighboring villagers started arriving in the village from this evening.

Dr Khashim Ruivah MLA of Chingai A/C will hoist the flag and Rita Leiyaphy MCS, SDO Chingai will be the guest of honour of the inaugural function.

Talent show, traditional show, Miss Beauty Contest and special appearance of Guru Rewben Mashangva and items perform by many other young Tangkhul artist from various villages will be the main attraction of the meet, they said.
