Imphal, November 24: In a significant verdict, the Gauhati High Court has asked the State respondents to invite fresh applications from eligible candidates who could not apply on earlier occasion due to �wrong action� of the authority for recruiting 32 posts of Assistant Teachers under the Autonomous District Council, Chandel.

Case dossiers said that the CEO of ADC, Chandel and the District Employment Exchange Officer (DEEO), Chandel violated the standing recruitment rules in prescribing the age limit of the intending candidates as 30 years, relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST.

On the basis of the same notification, the selection process was concluded on November 22. Owning to this notification which was also published in the leading State dailies, hundreds of eligible candidates were deprived of applying as the posts advertised, said advocate A Bimol Singh, who assisted senior advocate A Nilamani, appearing on behalf of three petitioners.

The age limit of the applicants in accordance to the standing RR should be 18 to 35 years and 5 years relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC, Bimol said, adding that out of the three petitioner, two of them who are ST are 37 years old and the remaining one is a General candidate whose age is 33 years.

Hence, they are eligible to face the selection process for the post of 32 primary teachers under the ADC Chandel.

Having heard both the parties, Justice UB Saha, in his Imphal Bench sitting, on November 17 directed the CEO of the Council, Chandel to write a letter to all DEEO including the DEEO Chandel to invite fresh applications from the eligible candidates within three days from the date of receipt of this order on the basis of subsequent modifications relating to upper age limit as well as written test.

The listed respondents in the case include the CEO ADC, Chandel, State of Manipur through the Commissioner (Hills) and DC Chandel.

Students� woe: Magulong Na Students� Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has drawn the attention of the State Government toward the problems being faced by students of Magulong Government High School under Tousem sub-division due to lack of adequate teaching staff.

In a statement, Union president Stephen Disuang pointed out that apart from the fact that the school is being run without a headmaster since 2003, there are only 10 staff in the school including a Chowkidar and a peon.

Petitions have also been submitted to the State Government through the Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong highlighting the problems of the students, but no favourable measures have been taken up in this regard till date, Disuang rued.
