Moreh, October 24 2010: Moreh Hospital, constructed with a grand and noble vision to serve the denizens of Moreh as well as people of neighbouring towns of Myanmar, is not delivering at all as the State Government has turned a blind eye to its requirements.

Even as dental equipment already installed at the hospital have not been put into any use for lack of doctor and staff, another dental chair has been provided to the hospital.

The State Government's apathy towards the 50-bedded hospital is glaringly visible.

All the equipment and instruments available at the hospital are simply rusting as they are worth nothing.

Moreh Hospital and its equipment are unable to serve the people of Moreh town in any meaningful manner.

Initially, when the hospital was constructed people have high hopes that it would cater to the health service requirements of not only Moreh but also neighbouring towns of Myanmar, and that it would promote people to people contact between Manipur and Myanmar.

At present, there are only three doctors in the 50-bedded hospital.

With Moreh Hospital simply standing like an antic structure, people have started questioning whether the hospital was built to present as a showpiece to central leaders coming to the border town.

Right from the inaugural day, the hospital has not been functioning in its true sense.

The X-ray machine broke down not long after the hospital was inaugurated and it has been many years since the machine became non-functional.

Under such circumstances, people have started questioning sincerity of the SPF Government regarding its claims for equitable development in both the hills and valley.

Some people asked the Chief Minister if he would allow the hospital being built in Khangabok Assembly segment in Thoubal district to face a similar fate as has befallen Moreh Hospital as and when the construction work is completed.

Highlighting the woes being faced by Moreh denizens due to absence of any reliable heath care facility which often compelled people to go to Tamu in the neighbouring country at huge expenses for medical services, people of the border town have urged the State Government to look into the requirements of the hospital so that it can serve its purpose in any meaningful manner.
