Stepping up the counter-insurgency operation, security personnel have reportedly apprehended four activists of the proscribed UNLF from different parts of the State today.
Based on specific information, a combined team of Imphal East and West District Police conducted cordon and search operation at Wangoi Laiphrakpam at around 5.30 am today and arrested on UNLF activist from there, informed SP of Imphal East District L Kailun in a statement.
The SP identified the arrested UNLF activist as Huirengbam Surash alias Wangoiba (27) s/o H Jagoi of Wangkhei Khaidem.
On spot verification, Surash disclosed that he joined the outfit in December 1999 through one Rangam alias Achung and underwent training at Ningthi Turel Mapan, Myanmar as 17th batch of UNLF under Army no.2006 and that he is now holding the rank of a sergeant of the UNLF.
According to another statement issued by SP of Imphal West district, acting on credible information, a combined team of Imphal West District Police Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles arrested one UNLF activist identified as Laishram Dinesh Singh alias Naoba alias Pangalphaba (25 years and Army no 2093 ) s/o late L Tomba Singh of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai from his house at around 5.45 am today.
Based on further interrogation, the combined team also arrested two more UNLF activists from their respective houses at 6.30 am and 7.30 am respectively.
The SP identified the two arrested UNLF activists as Khumanthem Naobicha Singh (25) s/o Kh Mani Singh of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai and Tongbram Inao Meitei (34) s/o late T Gopal Meitei of Sagolband Salam Leikai.
Meanwhile, PRO Assam Rifles informed that based on specific information troops of 21 Assam Rifles arrested one PLA cadre identified as Koijam Angangton alias Surjit Singh (21 and army no 2492) s/o late Koijam Lanoba Singh of Wabagai yesterday.
The apprehended cadre was handed over to Kakching PS today.
