Imphal, October 19: Referring to multitude of problems currently affecting normal academic affairs of colleges Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof C Amuba expressed serious concern that such grave situations have potential to derail smooth administration of the varsity.

Speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of Inter College Youth Festival at the MU Centenary Hall today, C Amuba desired that the Government, agitating teachers and students strive for finding an amicable solution to the current impasse by retracting from their respective tough postures.

Expressing that so far MU administration had not been affected by the ongoing tussles, the VC drew that attention of the masses that in case solution continues to elude problems afflicting schools and colleges of the State the manipuri society will feel its impact in the long run as implication of such problems affecting normal academic chores mean inevitable erosion of base of the society's future.

To the general public multitude of problems current derailing education sector might be observed as a passing phase as such a problem had been associated with the State for long but on deeper introspection the niggling issues are sure to tamper with the future of Manipur, opined the VC.

Listing issues of aided college, part-timer lecturers termination, students agitating in pursuit of restoration of normal academic atmosphere in higher educational institutions and student bodies of numerous institutions launching stirs to protest lack of teachers' strength as some of the current problems, Prof Amuba said there is no guarantee that MU would remain immune to these problems.

To free the society from these ailments before the entire State is consumed there is emergent need for the Government, teachers and students to provide room for negotiation as sticking to their respective stance would led to nowhere, he suggested.

In his address as functional president of the occasion, Dean of Students (MU) Prof W Nabakumar mooted that future of students' career would brighten only when they (students) are ensured normal academic atmosphere and opportunities to develop their personalities as modern day inticracies of being a student exceed more than mere class attendance record and covering a particular syllabus.

Stating that taking part in non-academic activities like sports and cultural programmes would be of enormous help in shaping personality of the youths (students), Prof Nabakumar exuded confidence that through participation in the culture-based inter-college festival personality of students could be developed.

The Dean of Students concluded his remarks with a fervent appeal to all concerned to check alarming cases of student candidates resorting to mass copying even in MU examinations.

Apart from presence of faculties and administrative officials of MU, the University's Cultural Coordinator Dr RK Somojit and president of MUSU Th Rupachandra attended the inaugural programme as guests of honour.

Students from 14 affiliated colleges are taking part in the inter-college festival which will continue till October 21.
