Imphal, May 19:
The Teachers and Medical Officers' Association of RIMS has made a fervent appeal to the people on matters related to health care services and its associated crisis in the State today.
While recognising the grief and mistrust that have been brewed, the Association appealed to the people to look into the matter righteously for the betterment of the Society.
In a statement jointly signed by its president Dr H Lokhendro Singh and secretary Dr Akoijam Brogen, the Association pointed out that there are conditions and complications where doctors can not revive a patient in spite of the best effort.
For example, even in the most normal delivery case, there can be unforeseen complications any time.
We can remember how Smita Patil died in spite of the best doctors around her while delivering her child.
Patient with cancer may die of heart attack suddenly, the jointly statement said, while clarifying that this is not to shake off any responsibility or mistake from the doctors' side.
Moreover, the statement said, hospital such as the State Hospital is supposed to have a higher rate of mortality than the general population as complicated cases are referred to them.
But in the present scenario, whatever the fact is, doctors are assaulted and hospital vandalised even in the private centres.
The Association also appealed to the doctors and the hospital authorities to do some thinking as to why the public is losing faith in them.
There must be some reasons and it would be worthwhile to look into them, the joint statement of the Association said, while drawing the attention of both the hospital authorities and the public to the circumstances and difficulties faced by the doctors in delivering their services.
The Association further appealed to the public and the hospital authorities to look into the reasons why many of the facilities are not there or not functional.
Observing that in case of any untoward events in the hospital, confrontations, allegations and clarifications from either side, in the long run would definitely affect the poor sections of the society in many ways, the joint statement said the Association believes that doubts and misunderstandings should be cleared through proper dialogue.
If the doctors are at fault, they should be tried under the usual norm and law followed everywhere in the world as Manipuris also belong to the same race called human being, the joint statement said, adding that the Association feels it is high time to debate on these issues so that a change can be brought about for all to live happily and peacefully.
