Imphal, August 18:
One teacher who has failed to attend class for the last seven months has been pulled up by DESAM.
The teacher is identified as Langoljam Basanta (40) of Mayang Imphal Anilongbi, informed DESAM member Kha-ngenbam Chitreswar.
Basanta is a teacher at Mayang Imphal Upokpi Primary School.
Following information about his absence from school since January this year, DESAM Wangoi Local Council submitted an application to the Wangoi ZEO asking to withhold his salary.
Earlier during a meeting, general secretary of DESAM Wangoi Local Council Kangsuwang had asked Basanta to attend school.
However, Basanta went on with his unauthorised leave and did not attend class.
Instead of attending to his duty as a teacher, Basanta in connivance with one bootlegger named Wangjam Kherjao from Mayang Imphal threatened Kangsuwang through telephone.
On August 11, Kherjao intimidated Kangsuwang with dire consequences to withdraw the application about holding up salaries of Basanta.
On the assurance of Basanta to attend school regularly in future, he will be handed over to family members today.
Yet, DESAM urged upon the State Government to take up necessary actions against such derelict teachers.
